THOUGHTS FROM A HOCKEY MOM

You Know You Spend Too Much Time at the Rink When...

  • someone asks how old your child is
    and you reply "Minor Atom"
  • your odometer hits 100,000km in the arena parking lot
  • it's just as dark outside leaving the arena as arriving
  • you convince people that practice Sunday mornings at 6AM isn't really that bad
  • you convince yourself that practice Sunday mornings at 6AM isn't really that bad
  • people you don't know call you by your name in arenas
  • it's so cold outside starting the car would take longer than the trip to Timmy's so you break down and drink the arena vending machine coffee
  • said vending machine coffee tastes good
  • any flipping coffee tastes good at 6AM
  • you know where the warm(relatively speaking) seats are in every local rink
  • you keep different types of hockey tape in your purse
  • you keep track of time by skate sharpenings
  • all the cars in the Timmy's parking lot at 6AM have hockey bags in them
  • you wake up two hours early to shovel the driveway to get to the game/practice
  • that glove smell no longer induces vomiting
  • you know whose turn it is to make the coffee run
  • no one knows whose turn it is and no one cares because it all evens out
  • you can tell the difference between the smell of laces and the smell of gloves
  • a stranger stops you at the grocery store and asks, "Don't you work at the rink?"
  • your holiday schedule is planned around games
  • you see your friends there more often than anywhere else
  • the kids buy into your line about shovelling being good for their backhand shots
  • you remember the rink you were in when your friend called to tell you she was finally pregnant
  • you know what rinks have amenities for grandparents (viewing rooms and heat lamps!)
  • despite all the hassles, you jump out of bed quicker for games and practices than anything else
  • you don't think I'm crazy for doing it week after week.

Congratulations to the Minor Atom Red team

Congratulations to the Minor Atom Red team who brought home a team trophy and silver medals from the West London - BMO Tournament during the weekend of January 30 to February 1. The team opened the tournament round robin with a 4-1 win over Brampton, followed by a 4-1 win over Caledon and a 10-0 win over Guelph. A close quarter final game against North Toronto saw Applewood emerge with a 2-1 victory. Applewood won 3-2 in the semi-final game against regular season rival Port Credit. The close championship game matched two undefeated teams and Waterloo had an overtime goal to put Applewood on the short side of a 2-1 score.

For most of the nine year olds on the team it was their first out of town tournament. An outstanding team effort and great tournament weekend for the boys. Every player registered points on the score sheet with goals and/or assists over the course of the six games. Special thanks to goaltender Domenic who registered one shutout, stopped almost 100 shots and allowed only seven goals in six games.

BILL BUSS TOURNAMENT ATOM 2009 Champions

Is there any better way to cap off a great season than to win your own host tournament? The Coyotes Atom A team's focus and dedication entering into the tournament was just that, win their own host tournament.

After the rust broke off, the team bonded together and started to roll after the third game. The confidence booster came in the forth game as the team netted 8 goals for a big win. A hard fought semi final game with the Leaside Flames saw the team step up another level and win 3-2.

The final game saw the Coyote team face off against their rival, Port Credit Storm. "This by far was a total team effort that bettered previous games", stated Coach Mike Galinski. Each and every player, coach and parent cheered as we all saw the team rise above and capture the 13th Annual Bill Buss Tournament with a tenacious 4-2 win.

Applewood Coyotes : Atom 'A' Champions

Friday Jan 16th saw the Applewood Coyotes Atom A team rise early exempt from school, arrive first in the Tim's drive thru and head over to Chesswood Arena for their first Toronto Penguins Tournament game at 8:00am. The first opposition for the Coyotes was the host Penguins. After the rust fell off the skates the Coyotes team bonded together for a 3-1 win. Friday afternoon found the Coyote team heading over to Westwood Arena to challenge Cedar Hill. The Coyote team stepped up and played a complete team game from start to finish winning 7-1. Early Friday night rest followed an early morning game three for the Coyotes on Saturday. This time the Coyote team faced the Reston Raiders from Virginia. The Coyotes team presented the Reston with team pins and a game jersey at the same time the Reston team presented the coyote players with Reston Team pins. This by far was the most intense game, stated Coach Mike Galinski. The team traded goals through the first 2 periods. During an intense 3rd period ,Reston scored the winning goal late on a 5-3 power play to win 3-2.

Sunday 7:00 am saw both the Coyotes and Reston Raiders face in the semi final game. Again the game started out hard and fast. This time the coyote team scored first and that set the tone. Both team traded goals until early in the third period when Julian Lankstead made a breakout pass to Dylan Bell, who looked up and sent a pass to Brady Galinski. Brady stepped in over the the Raiders blue and sniped a shot short side on the Raiders goalie for a 4-3 lead. Brady and Jack Mills scored empty net goals to end the game. Goaltender Ryan Johnston made diving saves to keep the game close.

Sunday 2:40 peggged the West Hill Golden Hawks vs Applewood Coyotes. Parents, grandparents, friends and family attended the final game. The game was fast and exciting. Applewood jumped ahead with goals in the second and early into the third period. Each goal was set up by hard team work work. Brady Galinski was the recipient of team effort as he was set up to score the two goals. Ryan Johnston stood on his head and made massive saves at times to keep his team in the game. Applewood won the tournament 2-1.

Minor Peewee Coyotes are Ace Bailey Tournament Champions

Congratulations to the Minor Peewee ‘A’ team who won the 23rd Annual Ace Bailey Tournament in Stoney Creek the weekend of December 13-14, 2008. After winning two out of the three round robin games they played, Applewood played the top team from the other group, Georgetown, in the semi finals and had a convincing 5 – 0 win.

They met one of the local teams, Niagara Falls, in the finals on Sunday afternoon. After a 1 – 1 tie in regulation, the game went into an unusual overtime system where you played 1 minute buzzered shifts. It went 4 on 4 with no goal, then 4 on 4 again with no goal. Next was 3 on 3 for a minute and Applewood scored; however officials decided there was no time on the clock. Therefore there was another 3 on 3 shift with no goal.

The next shift was 2 on 2 - no goal again. Finally in the sixth minute and with 1 on 1 format, Matthew Cairns scored for Applewood. The Applewood fans went wild. The team received Championship rings for their efforts.

A huge congratulations goes out to the entire team, especially the two goalies, Bradley Simon and Tyler Randa. And as always thanks from the team to the most organized team Manager, Vic Wiwchar. A great time was had by all.

The team was in tough against a skilled Kanata Blazers team in their first game, and lost 8-4. They came back to beat Duffield Devils 4-2 and the Peterborough Petes 3-1 in the remaining round robin games. The Coyotes showed their mettle by trouncing the Petes again 4-0 in the semi-final game to advance to the finals against the unbeaten Kanata team. While they fell behind 4-1, the guys never gave up and came back to defeat the Blazers 5-4 in a well-played and exciting game!

'Coyotes' Beat Arch Rival 'Wolves' to Win 3rd Consecutive MHL Playoff Championship

The Applewood Coyotes topped the MHL Bantam 'A' division by beating their arch rival Credit Valley Wolves to take a 3rd consecutive playoff championship. This great rivalry began almost 3 years ago and continued this year with both teams again leaving the pack behind at mid season - and continued to battle all year long.

This year the Wolves finished 1st in the regular season with 59 points (27-3-5 record and a 116/38 GF/GA average) and the Coyotes 2nd with 58 points (25-2-8 record and a 155/56 average), 20 points ahead of the 3rd place team. The two teams even split their series (1-3-1) to help set the stage for the playoff battle.

It's been a fascinating 3 years to watch these two very different style teams achieve success their own way. The Coyotes on the one hand with their free wheeling, open ice, high-powered offensive-minded style (the defense and even the goalies regularly got involved with the offence), to the Wolves on the other hand with their hard skating, hard checking, tight disciplined defensive-minded system.

Funny how there's something still unsettling about a team that can win in double-digits one day, and the next day come out with a 1-1 draw, even when you're still dealing with 14 year old boys. And true to form, once again, it was the Coyotes who stumbled in the quarters and the semis while the Wolves came into the Finals again as the only undefeated team in the playoffs (6-0).

With no love lost between these two teams and both knowing that the Finals will settle it, every game produced the expected hard fought grudge match; solid end-to-end action, bone crushing hits, great offence, great defense and great goaltending. And even when lady luck did play her part (at both ends), goalposts were rarely grazed, the "DING" could be heard throughout the rink. So, full marks to both teams for that great effort and it was a gutsy performance by the Coyotes to beat this favoured Wolves team, and in 4 games.

In retrospect, it's interesting that it was the Coyotes system that once again prevailed to take the Championship. The reason? One can pontificate and analyze all summer - that's Hockey! But one thing is for certain, and admittedly a difficult balance to achieve, but as long as kids remain respectful, play with discipline and are allowed to have FUN while developing and learning a great skill - we ALL come out winners! Let's keep it going Mississauga!

Congratulations to these two great teams for an outstanding run in the Mississauga Hockey League, but especially to the Applewood Coyotes who always played with a genuine free spirit, a wonderful enthusiasm and a true passion for this incredible game that we all cherish. It is a true testament of the great work of the MHL and specifically the Applewood Hockey Association. Well done Applewood!

Coyotes Battle Back to Defeat Avalanche in West Mall Early-Bird Bantam A Tournament

Congratulations to the Applewood Coyotes Bantam "A" Team who had to battle back to beat an undefeated Toronto Avalanche team in the West Mall Early-Bird Tournament final.

The Avalanche had the best round robin series record, defeating Applewood 2-0 and only allowing 1 goal against in their 3 games. But when the semis produced two very close games, with the Avalanche defeating the Humber Valley Sharks 3-2 and the Coyotes defeating the Vaughan Panthers 3-2, the stage was set for the big rematch in the Final.

The final proved to be the best game yet with solid hitting, great scoring chances and great goaltending at both ends that left the Coyotes leading 2-1 at the end of the 2nd. As tensions continued to mount the Coyotes got into penalty trouble in the 3rd but the boys dug deep to hang on to a 3-2 lead in the dying minutes of the game and then score their 2nd short-handed goal of the period to take the Championship 4-2. Congratulations to all the teams for a great, hard-fought tournament.

APPLEWOOD COYOTES PEEWEE "A" TEAM EARNS TWO PRE-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Peewee "A" Coyotes were a howling success in pre season tournaments this September!

They participated in back-to-back tournament weekends and came away victorious in both.

Their first championship was the Toronto Aces Tournament during Sept. 5-9. The team went undefeated in 5 straight games, winning 3-2 against the Toronto Avalanche, 3-1 over Credit Valley Wolves, 3-1 over the Toronto Ice Dogs and 3-1 over the Perington Blades.

Despite the fact that several team members were ill, and they were trailing the Vaughan Rangers late in the third period of the championship game, the Coyotes dug deep, and tied the game late. Lucas Motyka #10 scored the winner in dramatic fashion with 43 seconds left in overtime.

The following weekend they participated in the Huskies Tournament. They beat the Huskies 1-0, the Markham Waxers 3-2, Leaside Kings 4-1 and tied the Humber Valley Sharks 1-1. They met the North York Knights in the final, prevailing for their second championship 2-0.

Darian Zigante, #26, was named the Tournament MVP. Congratulations, Darian!

The Peewee "A" Coyotes are: David Miskus #3, Jacob Hale #4, Lucas Motyka #10, Alex Zulys #11, Benjamin Zucchet #13, Mitchell Emmons #15, Anthony Franceschi #19, Anthony Francioni #24, Darian Zigante #26, Gabriel Roda #27, Andrew Lalonde-Welby #30, Anthony Skrinjar #39, Christian Rivest #66, Matthew Rocca #77, Scott Nutter #87, Ethan Daniel #91, and Jeremy Ralphs #96. Coyotes Minor Bantam ‘A’ are Solid “Gold” in MHL Playoffs

It’s a rare and memorable achievement when a relatively new team wins all 3 minor hockey city Championships in the same year - the MHL League championship, the Metro (GTHL) championship and the playoff championship. But the Applewood Coyotes MBantam ‘A’ team did just that by winning the coveted Ice Dogs Cup beating their arch rival Credit Valley Wolves in 4 games. It was an outstanding performance by the Coyotes to not loose a game to this talented Wolves squad who came into the MHL Finals as the only undefeated team in the playoffs (6-0). In the regular season these two talented teams left the pack mid season - and continued to battle all year long.

The Coyotes won their regular season with a 28-4-3 record with an impressive 138/52 GF/GA average in the 35 game schedule (next was CV with 93/38 GF/GA). The team went undefeated in three ‘A’ level tournaments and finished 1st in their division in the 'AA' tournament that they entered in the fall. All in all, in the total 76 games played, the team managed an equally impressive 285/76 GF/GA average.

Yet it was the season end Bill Buss tournament that personified the team’s true spirit, as their last round robin game went into 5 OT periods (4-on-4, then 3-on-3, then 2-on-2) only to see the Coyotes Mitchell Doorey (#27) score in the dying seconds of the 8th period to eliminate a determined Oakville Rangers team. The win kept the Coyotes undefeated in their division (4-0) and pitted them against the other division’s top team from Woodstock (also 4-0). The semi-final saw yet another tie (2-2) and 3 more OT periods of great two-way hockey. With both teams missing by inches and looking to capitalize on a lucky bounce it was Woodstock that got the break and scored in the 3rd OT to advance to the finals. What a thrill it is to see 13 year-old kids play with such heart and passion (and succeed) all the while still having such a great time. To call this a team of “Great Character” would be an understatement.

The Applewood M. Bantam 'A' Champions are:
Forwards (4) Christopher Baron, (5) Kevin Marsh, (7) George Alexopoulos, (8) Michael Iannarelli, (11) Brodie Stevens, (14) Ben Chadbourne, (19) Christian Verlezza, (27) Mitchell Doorey and (97) Eric Cadieux; Defensemen (44) Cameron Ramos, (77) Michael Porfirio, (81) Jonathon Barbaro, (88) Gray Norman, (93) Scott Agnew; and the two super Goalies - (30) Tyler Dix and (68) Adam Pereira; HC - Paul Agnew; ACs - Lance Norman, Paul Stevens and Vinni Barbaro; Trainer - Dr. Mike Kates; Manager - Lorenzo Verlezza

All three teams played with skill and heart, and Applewood is proud to have been represented by such fine teams. Congratulations to M. Peewee A, with a record of 1-1-1 and M. Coyotes M. Bantam 'A' First in GTHL, City Championships

Congratulations to the Applewood Minor Bantam 'A' team who finished 1st in the prestigious GTHL City Championships (officially known as the Metro 'A' Play-Downs). The round robin tournament featured the league champions from the GTHL East Division, the West Division, the Mississauga Hockey League and the Scarborough Hockey Association.

The tournament provided some excellent hockey, befitting the Coyotes season where they dominated early to beat West Hill 5-0, then fell behind and battled back to beat West Mall 4-3 and then had to grind out a tough 1-0 victory against a strong Hillcrest team to remain the only undefeated team in the tournament.

It was a fitting end to a thrilling season that saw this team of quirky characters slowly gel together to develop speed and skill to match their unquestionable determination. Throughout this season the Coyotes evolved to become a team with good depth; from their potent offense that at times could score beautiful goals at will, to the rock solid defense that backed them and kept them moving forward, to the impeccable goaltending that robbed the opposition of many sure goals.

But the key to it all was the heart - coming straight out of the dressing room - that pushed these kids to play their best and many times it was a combination of different kids that stepped up to play through the adversity and show true leadership on the ice.

Congratulations on an outstanding season Applewood! A BIG thank-you too, to the great parents, families and friends that supported this team and cheered them on - all year long.

Novice red Coyotes defend BMO Cup in London

Sunday Feb. 4th, the Applewood Coyotes Novice Red team faced cross-town rivals, West Mall, in the final of the BMO Cup in London and skated to a 4-1 victory!

The Coyotes opened round robin play with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Oakridge Aeros on Friday afternoon. Early Saturday morning Applewood played the host team West London. This game ended with a 5-2 Coyote victory. Later Saturday afternoon the Coyotes faced undefeated SSE Wild. The Wild jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Applewood tied the score with 2 goals in a span of a minute and a half late in the third. Thirty seconds later SSE came down and scored the go ahead goal before adding an empty netter with under a minute to go. Applewood lost 4-2 and ended up in third place after the round robin.

The semi's took place Sunday morning with Applewood facing SSE for the second time in less than 18 hours. The game went back and forth with both goalies making some terrific saves. The Coyotes finally slipped one past the SSE goalie late in the second and added an insurance marker in the third to set up a meeting with West Mall in the finals.

Applewood had played West Mall four previous times this year, splitting the season series two games a piece. The first period solved nothing as both teams had many shots but couldn't find the back of the net. West Mall struck first early in the second before The Coyotes erupted for four unanswered goals en route to their defense of the BMO Cup they won last year.

Congratulations to all the kids on a terrific tournament, well done Coyotes!

Coaches Challenge
Iceland Arena - Friday, January 12th

This year’s Coach’s Challenge held at Iceland Arena on Friday, January 12th, surpassed last year’s in virtually every respect. We had two evenly matched and very exciting games with a great representation from the teams. The first game ended in a 3-3 tie, generating an exciting shoot-out with the Blue team prevailing! The second game saw the White team victorious 9-8. From all indications, the fans really enjoyed the event, cheering loudly for their favourite players and waving their banners. The best fan signs were made by Paul Rebelo's Peewee Red team!

Two Coyote's jackets were raffled off - the lucky winners were Jonathan Carella, Minor Atom White, and Ante Marinovic, Peewee Red. Not only did Applewood shine, our charities came out on top too! Thanks to your generous support, Applewood raised 375 lbs of food for our local food bank and $1,200 for the Tour for Kids Children’s charity. Thank you to our special referees, Jamie Macedo (Midget A), and AHA President, Mark Zizek, and to timekeepers and announcers Angelo Sicilia (M. Midget White) and Brett Webster (M. Peewee Red). Thank you to all of the coaches, players and spectators for making this year’s event such a huge success!!!

Applewood Attends Ice Dogs Game

On Friday, Feb. 2nd, Applewood held its Association Night at the Mississauga Ice Dogs. Although the Ice Dogs lost the game against the Belleville Bulls, Applewood Hockey came out a big winnerby selling 756 tickets and raising almost $1500. In addition, thanks to sales by David, Christian, Andrewand Anthony from the Minor Peewee A team, and Brett and Clifford from the Minor Peewee Red team, 50/50 salesat the game raised over $1200, with Applewood receiving a $320 share of the proceeds. Happily the large pot was won by former Applewood player, Mike Zizek.

Thanks to Maria Skrinjar and Brian and Wendy Webster for supervising this excellent sales team. Highlights of the night included the warm-up skate with the Ice Dogs won by Cameron Smith from our Novice Green team - a moment he'll never forget!

Congratulations to the players from the Minor Peewee A team, under coach Andy Hale, who won the post-game ice for a fun skate for selling the most tickets. The first intermission mini-game was won by the Stars, under coach John Ialeggio - what fun to watch the TimBits players on the big ice! To all our players and parents who participated in this great night, thanks for supporting your hockey association and the Mississauga Ice Dogs!

Coyotes Best in Kingston ON

WE ARE THE STAN FISHER MEMORIAL CHAMPIONS 2006. GREAT TEAM WORK!!!

The Applewood Peewee Red Coyotes won the STAN FISHER MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIP, outscoring their opponents 31-0 in total games scoring, to win the championship on December 3rd, 2006.

Coaches and parents are most proud of the disciplined and sportsmanlike play of the team. This is the team that won the Mayor's
Award for Applewood's most sportsmanlike team last year, with the addition of five new players who fit right in. Comments made by other parents from opposing teams were "WOW, these kids know how to play hockey." But what made the coaches most proud was the fact that tournament organizers and other spectators noticed that the games did get rough and “chippy” but our boys just stuck to playing hockey and that is why we dominated the tournament. Great work team!! Oh, and don’t let the goal spread fool you - our goalie Dominic Polsoni was tested, however the other teams could not put one by him.

Phoenix, AZ

The Applewood Bantam “A” Coyotes captured the 2006 Coyote Cup today with their decisive win over the Sacremento Capital Thunder of the Western Hockey League.

The Applewood Coyotes were the only Canadian Bantam “”A” team in the Sonoran Youth Hockey League’s 2006 Coyote Cup and brought the best of “Canada’s sport to the desert city of Phoenix.

On December 28th the Applewood Coyotes opened against the Phoenix Firebirds and immediately set the pace with a commanding 10 – 0 shut out. Being cautious not to be lulled into over confidence, the team stayed focused to meet the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes on December 29th. In a hard fought battle that found the Jr. Coyotes up 3 – 0 at the beginning of the third period, the Applewood Coyotes rallied to bring the game to a 3 – 3 tie at the horn. From the reality of this close call, the Applewood Coyotes took out their “frustration” on the Peoria Roadrunners by posting a 9 – 0 shut out.

Back on track, and on the big ice at the NHL Glendale / Jobing.com Arena, the Applewood Coyotes now prepared to face the West Valley Wolves of Southern California. Big and fast, West Valley posed a serious threat as nothing short of a decisive win would assure the Applewood Coyotes a place in the finals. With the help of forward Dylan Madge’s second hat trick of the tournament and the shared goal tending of Kashif Sheikh and Anthony Varano, the Applewood Coyotes held the West Valley Wolves to one goal while posting a 9 – 1 final score.

The finals took place today at 12:15 MST against the Sacremento Capital Thunder. The Thunder’s reputation preceded them as word was received that the Thunder had been California State Champions in their Pee Wee year and were undefeated this season in both tournament and regular season play.

The Applewood Coyotes hit the ice hard and fast and set the pace of the game with back to back goals by forward Jesse Silva at 10:34 and 9:53 in the first period. From that point forward the press was on as the Applewood Coyotes, and goaltender Kashif Sheikh, held the Thunder to one goal in a 7 – 1 win.

This Championship marks the third consecutive Tournament Championship for the 2006 – 2007 Applewood Bantam “A” Coyotes and the fourth consecutive “A” Tournament Championship for Head Coach Paul Franch.

Mississauga Coyotes Take Brampton in Overtime and Beat Webster (NY) to Win Fort Erie Tournament

Applewood Bantam 'A' team

The Applewood Coyotes Minor Bantam “A” Team rolled into Fort Erie Friday night with a High Powered offence and the best Goals Against average in the MHL.

The team was confident to do well in the tournament and showed it in their first 3 games beating the Fort Erie Jr. Meteors 7-0, the Barrie Colts 7-3 and the Nobleking Knights 6-2.

But things took a dramatic turn for the Coyotes Sunday morning when they faced a tough Brampton Battalion squad in a hard-hitting semi-final that saw the team have to battle back the entire game.

"Its A New Game"

Confused by the penalty calls this season? Click on the following link www.gthlcanada.com (Standard of play & rules), for information on the new Standard of Play in minor hockey. The changes come on the heels of last season's rule changes in the NHL. Your coach has a DVD from Hockey Canada which illustrates the changes. Check with your team officials if you haven't already had a chance to view it.

Brad Norris, Executive Director for the Mississauga Hockey League, says "The game of hockey is evolving and we will need your patience and understanding while we transition through this period of time. The Standard of Play will change the way our children play the game, the way we coach the skills to succeed and have fun and the way our referees officiate the games."

Minor Bantam A wins Humberview Huskies Tournament

The Applewood Coyotes Minor Bantam A team, under Head Coach, Paul Agnew, were undefeated in the Humberview Huskies Early Bird Hockey Invitational recently.

The team limited their goals against to 3, defeating teams from Downsview, Caledon, Clarkson and Markham and meeting last year's MHL champion, Erindale, in the semi-finals. They won 4-1 over Meadowvale Mohawks in the final game.

Captain, Michael Porfirio, was named the division MVP; goaltenders Tyler Dix and Adam Pereira also put in spectacular performances. Congratulations to the entire team!

Pre Season Tournament Results

On September 7 - 10, 2006 the Bantam "A" Coyotes participated in the Toronto Aces September Classic Hockey Tournament and came home with the Bantam "A" Championship and a 5 - 0 undefeated record. And it was no easy ride. All teams played hard and long in search of the Championship Cup but the Coyotes triumphed over all contenders.

After the September Classic the Coyotes rolled right into the Brian Steele Memorial Hockey Tournament hosted by the Hillcrest Summits. The Brian Steele Memorial proved to be a true test to the talents and the determination of the Applewood Coyotes. The caliber of play was very high and it was give and take all the way.

The Applewood Coyotes once again arrived at the final game undefeated, however, the final game proved to be the greatest challenge of the two tournaments. With three minutes left to play in the third period, the Coyotes found themselves down 4 - 2.

What combination of coaching, skills, determination and heart came together in that last three minutes can never be truly determined, but the result was two more Applewood goals to force a 4 - 4 score and an overtime period. With energy, skill, and even more heart Applewood's Paul Gorman fired a pass up the middle that was picked up by Centre Jesse Silva. The opposing goalie came out to challenge Silva and Jesse cut out around the goalie and fired home the winning goal.

The end result was back-to-back Tournament Championships and an 11 - 0 record on the way into the regular season beginning on September 26th.

The September "early bird" tournaments are the testing ground for the upcoming year's teams. In the course of these two tournaments, the Applewood Coyotes have met and defeated the GTHL's top three seeded Minor Bantam "A" teams from the 2005 - 2006 season. The 2006 - 2007 Applewood Bantam "A" Coyotes are looking good and looking forward to a great season!
